anyone know whatever became of the 'silver cup' collection of MvR? I thought they became property of the family but wondered if they ended up in some museum?

This question comes up ever so often. It is beleived the Soviets got them when they took over Eastern Germany. Where they are now is a mystery.

However, I have it on good authority that Madonna has two of them

dont recall where this was stated, but it was reported that several Soviet soldiers had taken the cups from the vR home when Silesia was overrun in 1945. Their CO, whose name was listed, supposedly demanded some of the cups from one of the soldiers who didnt stash his find as quickly as his mates did. It was reported that the officer melted down the cups ( 5 of them?)for their silver content.

Wonder what comrade commanding officer had on his mind regarding the silver, a contribution to the communal state or personal booty?

Anyone know of any war relics that have been put up for sale since the death of European communism?

Many folks have asked about these topics. There are supposedly some German booty stashed away in Moscow museums. All but a fet of the WWI aircraft in the aviation museum ended up as firewood. I am convinced that the silver cups were melted down for their intrisic worth. The von Richthofen homw which is in modern Poland was in an area among the first to be sacked.
