I am trying to establish my ancestor's role in the Franco-Prussian War. He was awarded the Iron Cross, which I have in my possession. Would like to know his unit, his rank, his activity. Does anyone have information on where this type of data might be found? Suggestions, help, etc. appreciated. Now I'll let you get back to WWI.

Skipper, Greetings: Your best bet is to contact a German military attache in this country, or a German Consul, and put your query to him. Or you could write the great library in Leipzig. Or ask some of the German forumites to help you. 6/9/00.EOM.
