I always thougt Udet scored his first kill flying a fokker E3. Recently i read an article that said he flew a Fokker D3 biplane in that mission on 18 march 1916...so wich was it?Anyone knows for sure?

From combining my materials, this is what I've gathered...Udet was issued a new Fokker EIII to fly with KEK Habsheim to protect the two-seaters. However, upon take off a cable used for the machine gun became tangled with the controls causing them to jam and the plane crashed. Due to the Fokker EIII crash, Udet was given Fokker DIII, 364/16, to fly in its place and with that plane he scored his first confirmed victory.

Hope that helps.

The only thing I can find regarding Udet's time between March and October 1916 is that he remained on the roster of KEK Habsheim through to Jagdstaffel 15. I can only guess from that information (and the absence of any information indicating that he was injured or out of service) is that he continued to fly with his unit but just simply didn't achieve any victories. It's a long gap between his first and second victory, but he had some other short gaps early in his victory list also, although none near as long as the first.

I'm still checking on the Fokker aircraft that Udet flew between March and October 1916. If I find out anything, I'll let you know. I'm also hoping that maybe someone else around here knows something about all of this to add to it.
