One or two Forumites maintain contact with the grandson of Kempf, maybe they can help you further.

Kempf is the subject of a small biography in Neal O'Connor's Volume VI. It has nice pictures (haven't read it yet). Note that FK spent a lot of time at training schools instructing the new German pilots. He was posted to Jastaschulen on two occasions, one of which was during August 1918 if I recall correctly.

Hello Bob,

Mark is right. Kempf also flew Dr1 493/17. Flying this plane he scored his last victory (08-05-1918).
It was on this plane he wrote on the upperwings "Kempf" and on the middlewings "Kennscht mi noch?".
In Jorg Armin Kranzhoff's "Fokker DR1" (Flugzeuge die Geschichte Machten) two photo's of the 493/17 are shown. On the cover of The Jasta Pilots is a nice painting by Barry Weekley of Kempf's DR1 in combat with a Camel.
