I noticed on the balloon busters page that neither Russia nor Italy had any balloon aces, can anyone tell me which pilots destroyed the most balloons for these two countries?
Thanks in advance.
Boris

Hi Boris,

Above the War Fronts shows 3 balloons for Ancilloto and 5 (one "round balloon") for Baracchini but only ONE of the five was confirmed.
Other Italian pilots had single balloon victories too.

I did not see ballooon victories mentioned for the Russian aces but I have seen some time ago a report that Russian aircraft destroyed a German balloon and think that was not the only case. Maybe the Russians Air Service did not count balloons (??) or the reports vanished.

Maybe another Forumitee can help you with examples of German or Austrian balloons destroyed by Russian aircraft.

Among the AH aces, the top balloonatiks were:
Bonsch 6 (5.00)
Brumowsky 5 (3.66)
Fiala 3
Rudorffer 3

Three others got 2 each; 9 more 1 each including shares.

The action on the Eastern Front was much more fluid than in the West. Maybe there just wasn't as much opportunity to attack balloons there. The Russian pilots were very brave and resourceful and they would have gone after any that could be had.

Hi Boris

I only have fragmentary information about Russian claims but...
The Russian Air Force claimed 8 enemy ballons in 1916 according to LGA. I have a long list of total russian pilot claims until end 1916 but cant identify who was responsible for those ballons.
