In memory of Charles M. Schulz; gone west last night at the age of 77.
Thanks for all the laughs!

Ther strangest thing about his passing is that he went on the exact day that his very last cartoon strip, submitted months earlier, was published.
As another forumite suggested, I think we should quaff a root beer in memory of our favorite ace and his many encounters with the Red Baron.

His on going saga of Snoopy vs. The Red Baron caused a lot of interest in WWI aviation. Students in my history classses often inquired if there was such a person. Several of them really got hooked on WWI. RIP, indeed.

Schulz was a great man. When others would ignore or forget such days as Veteran's Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and the like, Schulz would always find a way to give tribute to the men and women who have proudly served our country.

Be it Snoopy dressed in rags as a minuteman at Valley Forge, or a T-4 hoping "Ike" would promote him to T-5 as he quaffed a root beer with "Willy and Joe, or playing bridge with brother Spike, who was serving in the trenches while he was a flying Ace, Schulz would always remember.

He showed just how much he cared when he donated some time back $1,000,000 for the WW2 memorial in DC. He showed again when his dying wish was that contributions be made in his name.

The world in general and veterans and servicemen specifically lost a good man.

Tobias
