Just wondered if anyone else had heard that they are making a new pearl habour movie, the budget is meant to be around $145 million. Anyone know if anyone has picked up any WWI films of late?

I hope it won't be directed by Oliver Stone. He'd have the US attacking the Japanese.

On the other hand, I've just learned that the long awaited sequel to "Quigley Down Under" has completed filming. No details or release date available, but does this mean that "Magnum PI: The Movie" is next?
Magnum: "Ivan, did you watch the sun rise this morning?"
Higgins: (delerious): "Magnum? Zeus, Apollo. Kill."

In Trenches on the Web forum last week, someone posted a message saying that a new WW1 movie was in pre production. Apparently it was to tell the story of an American unit in 1918. Mel Gibson was the hot tip to be in the leading role.
If you are interested in looking at the message, which I think was around last Wednesday or Thursday, the Trenches on the Web address is

Striker Air Manufacturing "was requested to submit a story line and also the development of applicable aircraft for use in the feature production ..to End All Wars. Design and development was initiated on the aircraft that will be required, the most challenging of these is the recreation of WWI bombers."
" ..to End All Wars ... is about an American's point of view as a combat pilot who joins in the French Foreign Legion in late 1914 as an aircraft mechanic, then observer/gunner and finally transferred to the US 94th Pursuit Squadron in mid 1918."

Why would we want to know about a movie on Pearl Harbour ? What has this to do with WW1 aviation ?

Thank you Scott. Since I first came to the forum there have been dozens of threads about supposed or proposed WW1 flying movies, much of it little more than wishful thinking, now at last something other than rumour and speculation. I'm stocking up on popcorn.

John,
Subjects for discussion:
1. WWI aviation
2. Aviation
3. Nearly anything military.
4. Weaponry....which gets us into ---->
5. 2nd Amendment
6. Politics (um so wieder, um so wieder)
Frankly, it's the diversions that make it much more interesting. Some of us enjoy the arguing for its own sake. Must be the latent Talmudic scholar hiding in each of us bursting forth.
VBR,
Mike

A few years back I'd read that Tom Cruise had bought the movie rights to Paul Watkins' novel
"In The Blue Light Of African Dreams", a story about an American deserter from the French air servce, sentenced to a penal battalion in North Africa. He flies a battered Spad against Arab rebels and gets the mad idea of redeeming himself by getting back to France and flying the Atlantic.
Hell of a good read.
