Romanian Air Force

Maybe this question appears to be rather strange, but does anyone have information on the the Romanian Air Force during the Great War ? All I know is that it was called "grupul aviati", and they got French assistance. But which types of aircraft did they use ?

At the start of the war the Romainians had 14 aircraft & by october that had some 40-60 more that were given by the French. After January when the running period of the Romainian Front ended they had 11 Escadrille's & their planes included N 11's & 17's & later on some Spads. There were French pilots in their ranks including the ace Maurice ???Gond??? & later RNAS pilots & planes.

Patrick, there seems to be a surge in interest in this theatre at the moment and I believe we can expect a couple of books this year, though I'm afraid I can't quote chapter and verse. Not because I'm sworn to secrecy or anything, I just don't have it. One I did recently come across is this one on the Farman F40 in Romanian service, which I have reviewed on my web page. A bit narrow in scope I admit, and in Romanian to boot so hardly a good read, but some nice pics with helpful captions in English. I've included a link to the publishers on line catalogue (again in English) alongside my review.
