Greetings,

For Christmas I received a copy of "Above The Trenches" that was autographed by all 3 authors and 2 British empire Aces (my new favorite book!)

Does anyone know if other books in the series were issued in this manner or "special Issues"?

I assume for the later books in the series this was impossible due to the fact that all Aces are now deceased, but I was curious about the early "chapters"

Thank you in advance
Scotty

Check the Book Review section of this site.

Barrett,

Thank you for responding,

The book that I received was released as a special edition by Grub Street. When you open the book there is an autograph page with the following text..

"A De-Lux Limited Edition of 20 Copies. Signed by the authors and World War 1 fighter aces. This is Number 16"
and then the signatures are beneath...

I have re-read the review sections of all of the Grub Street books, and find no mention of "special editions"... ( although I have found the review section and your insight most helpful!)

Thank You again for your response
Scotty

Can't remember for sure, but I doubt it for the reason you said. The authors have generally signed some, but the others I had something to do with there was not a special edition.

The Grubb Street Web Page has grown but is still little more than an e-mail hot link. I'm keeping my little beady eye on it though.

The limited edition of Above The Trenches was originally intended to have the signatures of four aces, but the ravages of time prevented two of them from signing. It is a genuine limited edition, being a different binding of the trade edition. None of the other World War I aces books from Grub Street have appeared in limited editions, since as you say, all the aces are now deceased. The second edition of Aces High from Grub Street did appear in a limited edition with a different binding (16 aces plus the two authors), as did my Stars and Bars (16 aces plus myself). The second volume of Aces High will have a "limited edition" with a signed sheet pasted in the regular trade edition, with I think 16 signatures. Chris Shores' Malta: The Spitfire Year also exists in a limited edition, with 16 signatures.

Frank.
