I am attempting to identify the serial number of a Friedrichshafen G.III downed on the evening of 8 March 1918 on returning from a raid on Paris. It fell in the Foret De Compiegne.

Rick Duiven has already helped me by identifying that the aircraft according to both von Eberhardt and the Ehrentafel belonged to BG 5/Bs 6 (if you are not familiar with these abbreviations they are Bogohl or Bombengeschwader des OHL and Bosta or Bombenstaffel) and the crew, who died, consisted of Ltn.d.R. Otto Georg, Obs., Hptm.d.L. Fritz Eckstein,Obs. and Ltn. Leo Gerhard von Heydebreck, Plt.

I have a section of wing spar and night 'lozenge' fabric from this particular aircraft and they are displayed with photos of the wreckage at web site, http://charlesgosse.home.mindspring.com (no "www").

Your help would be greatly appreciated !

I had a look at the web site identified on this post and one of the Items is what appears to be a genuine Combat report sumitted by Sub/Lt Ronald Sykes of 203 Sqdn dated May 30 1918. I wasn't aware that the public records office has ever disposed of any combat reports intentionally, so where did this one come from? Does anyone know of any others in private hands?

I acquired the combat report you refer to through public auction at Sotheby's last year.

The only other thing I know is that this FdH, who crashed in the Forêt de Compiègne at 2115 on 8 March 1918, was confirmed to the French Défense Contre Avions (DCA).
