The following is the only concrete note I found related to a French (attempt) to deliver aircraft to Rumania in the Autumn of 1916:
"2nd Lt. Ioan Teodorescu, who had served in the French air force, asked to be dispatched to the Rumanian air force in late August 1916. In November 1916 (no exact date is given), along with two other pilots, he was tasked to ferry aircraft from Salonika to Rumania. However, dense fog compelled the three airmen to return to Salonika, where Teodorescu fell from 600 m onto the airfield and died on impact."
I am wondering, how did the over 100 French aircraft arrive to Rumania from August to December 1916? By rail and/or ship, or were any also ferried in flight? If yes, I'd be please to learn of any details.
I need this info for an article I am presently working on regarding 'Escadrila engleza', i.e. 'The English Squadron', an ad-hoc RNAS unit that ferried a few aircraft from the island of Imbros, in the Aegean Sea, to Rumania in the Autumn of 1916.

Thanks, Andy, but I have the serial nos. of all RNAS Nieuports that were ferried to Rumania:
3978 (Scout), 8514, 8524 & 8525 (Fighter) on Oct. 25, 1916;
8513 & 8731 (Fighter) on Nov. 21, 1916.

What I am actually looking for are details of any French aircraft ferried by air to Rumania in the Autumn of 1916 (if any).

Hi Denes

When Roumania entered the War in late August 1916 the French had made promising to help them with aircrafts. The Roumanian wanted 50 pilots and 55 aircrafts. Actually 60 aircrafts were delivered from mid october until the end of the Year.

Two French pilots had arrived in Bucharest already on 26 Aug 1916 travelling via Paris-London-Archangel. The first of these aircrafts were reported to be Farmans and similar aircrafts which were no match for the rather modern German aircrafts which were arriving.

The German seldom met any enemy aircrafts in the Air and the Roumanian only had 14 aircrafts in three escadrilles with obselete Farmans and Vosins.

The British Admiralty decided in october 1916 to send aircraft from the eastern mediterean to support Roumania. These consisted of 3 Nieup 2s and 2 Henri Farmans. They travelled from Imbros to Bucarest. On 21 November the British send three more Nieup.2-s and one Henri Farman. They also decided to send 20 Sopw.1 1/2 Str, but the Roumanian army was overrun before arrangemnet could be made.

In mid January 1917 the German decided to stop at river Sereth and most German air units were transferred away to other fronts.

Then suddenly the Roumania Air Force came alive...
Eleven Franco-Roumanian air units had been formed, including four with Nieup.1-s. The Russian also had Air units in the area and Sea-Air units on the Black Sea.

This is taken from a recent article in Over The Front Vol 14/1 1999.

I think that both the French and British flied their aircrafts from example Imbros through the Bospurus..into the Black Sea area...but it must have been a really long flight(many hours) and did the aircrafts had enough petrol tanks for it..?
One other possible transport way was the route mentioned above..

This transport problem seems still to be a mysterium...!
And the probable reason that the allied was unable to help Roumania when it was needed.
