Hi all

I wonder if anyone knew which allied unit who was responsible of the day bombing attack on Jasta Bölckes airfield at Marcke on 13 March 1918.

4 ground crew was killed and 11 wounded and one hangar with 6 aircrafts was completely destroyed.

I also wonder if these aircrafts were Fokker Dr.1 ?

Thanks in advance

Gunnar

Gunnar,

I don't have information on the British unit, but on Page 43 of Alex Imrie's "The Fokker Triplane" there is a picture of Wilhelm Papenmeyer's damaged triplane (214/17) after the raid. It was damaged badly enough that it was written off. The caption states that 5 mechanics were killed, and that Bäumer's mechanic, Monteur Stahlmann, was among the wounded.

Papenmeyer began flying a similarly-marked Triplane, 409/17, the next day.

Hi Gunnar,

I think you will find it was Number 57 Sqn. I will have to check a few things and get back to you, but they were involved in a series of raids the British made on aerodromes between 1st and 21st March. They were also in the area on the day in question. I am not sure who escorted them yet but 22 is a real possibility.

more later

regards

Darryl
