Squadron/Signal's "Fokker DVII in Action" has a color plate of Fokker DVII 1450/18 in what appears to be Jasta 18 colors. *(It doesn't specify.) *It mentions that it was flown by Hans Schultz, who seems to have had the misfortune of winding up on the business end of the machine guns belonging to Lt. C.H.R. Lagesse of 29 Sqdn.
Does anyone have any more information on this pilot? *I checked the Jasta 18 webpage link that someone posted to the forum earlier, and he's not listed as an ace.
I was just wondering if Schultz was KIA or captured, or if he managed to survive his encounter with Lt. Lagesse. *The text doesn't say.
Best regards,
Dean

I should also add that the Jasta 18 webpage showed him with 1 victory, and that it did not have an asterisk (denoting KIA) by his name.
Best regards,
Dean

Dean:
Ltn. Hans Schultz had joined Jasta 15 on some unknown date. When Jasta 15 traded war diaries with Jasta 18 and became Jasta 18, Schultz went to Jasta 18. He was shot down on 6 June 1918 while flying Fok. D.VII 368/18 by Lt. G.H.R. Lagesse of 29 Sqdn S.E.5 (RAF) and became a P.O.W. 1450 was the Flugel Nr. (wing number.) 2455 was the Fokker Flugzeugwerke werke nr.
The color plate is wrong. The fuselage cross was over painted and there were two black bands around the fuselage fwd of the tailplane. The red went to the rear of the cockpit. The radiator shell and under cowl were white. The tailplane was white in the center in continuation of the fuselage and the rest, black . It only had the fwd side cowls and there were no louvers. Cat. No. Js18-50.
bluer skies ahead,

Thanks, gentlemen. This helps me quite a bit. I had suspected that there were probably inaccuracies in the plates.
Was the top of the upper wing solid red, or were there personal markings? I only have the side profile.
Best regards as always,
Dean

Dang! Sorry about the double post. I obviously didn't think it took this first one. The Microshaft Network is so slow tonight, I could probably have sent this post faster by snailmail!

* * The tops of the top, lower and axle wings were vermillion red as was the forward fuselage, wheel covers u/c and cabane struts. *The 600mm x 100 mm cross on the rudder was centered 500mm down from the top of the rudder and 100mm aft of the rudder post leading edge. the upper wing crosses were 1200mm x 200mm with 60 mm white edges forming right angles and centered on the 5th rib from the wing tip. The borders do not cross the ends of cross arms. *The lower wing crosses were 1000mm x 200mm with 60 mm white right angle edges and centered on the 4th rib from the wing tip. The propeller was an Axial. Cat No. Js18-50.
