Oops. Been leafing through Haddow 'n' Groscz's splendid tome 'n' seen a picture of the SSW R.II 2/15 on page 184 "with night camouflage applied" (and a large-lozenge pattern on upper-wing undersurfaces) that looks more like the mystery bus. Its maiden flight took place on 26 October 1915; after protracted development, it was delivered to an operational unit on 29 June 1917. Maximum speed being well below that of the Staaken R-Planes, it was relegated to training duties at Doberitz and was transferred to Cologne in June 1918 where it crashed later that year.
Amazing engineering feats, those Giants.
