Unknown Marking

Hallo everyone,

Who knows a WW1 german squadron or an german aircraft (Aviatik) with an "Edelweiss" marking? Thanks

* * * My first guess would be one of the Bavarian Fl. Abt. *But, could you please reference the source photograph, book, magazine, I would like to see the photo, then I might be able to identify the unit.

There were at least two pilots with personal Edelweiss insignia:

Otto Kissenberth (20 victories), white Edelweiss on a black background

Paul Bäumer (43 victories), white Edelweiss on a red background

The only problem is that these two "cases" were neither Aviatik 2-seater pilots (they flew Albatros scouts) nor were these flowers squadron insignia.

C.I (Bay) from the production order of 25 aircraft, serial numbers 1553-1577/15 with an 180 Ps Argus, AsIII engine, built under license by Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke. *The order was issued by Idflieg in October 1915 to the Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke, München. *It is most likely assigned to one of the Bayern Feldflieger Abtleilungen Nr. 1b -9b. or to the Bayer, or, Militär Fliegerschule Nr.1, or Bayer. Flieger Ersatz Abteilung Nr.1, Schleissheim. *I am unable to identify the specific unit.
