It's increasingly obvious that my system is way too slow for up to date Flight Sims combat or otherwise. For this and other reasons I am looking to completely replace the whole shooting match, upgrading just isn't an option. What should the optimum flight sim system have?

not sure about optimum, but the system i use to fly with has:
350 mghz, 64mb ram, 2 gig h/d, yada, yada, yada.
win98, with sound card, video card, virus scan , etc.
rb3d;
joystick and rudder pedals;
a modem for online flight, downloads and patches;
and two voodoo 2 cards.
all other programs have been uninstalled. i only fly with this machine. nothing else.
works good for me.

I'm currently running a system about 2 years old: PIII 600, 128MB RAM, 14GB HD, 32MB video card and a cable modem. So far I haven't tried any flight sim that I couldn't run at 20FPS or better on maximum detail in 800X600+ resolution.

Thanks guys. The system I am aiming at has a higher spec than anything suggested so far, which is encouraging, but those suggestions are not so terribly far advanced on what I currently have, which is a worry. :-/ Perhaps I should be looking at my screen resolution and other system settings.

thanks again
