I updated RB to RB3d with the offical update. I was playing it offline fine. Then I had the game crash. Since then anytime I try to play it, it just crashes straight to the desk top. *:'( Anyone else have this happen? If so how did you fix it.

I am running WinME, Athlon CPU, 64 megs ram, Herc 3d Prophet card.

Cheers

Ross

happens often. the way i fix the problem is to remove and reinstall the cd. when the window opens, click 'quit'. leave the cd in it's tray and restart your computer. go in by clicking start/program files/sierra/red baron 3d. i know it's a royal pain, but, that's the way i do it. works fine after that.

You know... when I saw the title, I thought you were asking about my particular skill- crashing whatever aircraft I happen to be "flying." Yup, I've gotten quite good at it...

I cannot be certain, but you may have a video problem. I know that since I installed 3dFX with my VooDoo4 AGP card, the crashes have all but stopped. I did do a reinstall after the addition of 3dFX, and I also change my pixel rate to match the program requirements.

BTW, the 3D effects are much better now. I love the shock wave effects when a bomb falls to earth or when an a/c crashes.

Best of luck.

You should probably check to see what your Virtual memory setting is. You should have minimum set to 80 megs.

Also, you need to shut down as many things as you can without shutting down Windows. There's a Freeware program floating around called Enditall. You can mark which programs to protect, such as Windows Explorer (which is a must!) then hit the button that says "End it all" and the other programs are turned off.

As for your video card, that may or may not be a problem. But only if you're trying to use 3D, which it shouldn't let you do unless you have a Voodoo card.

Good Luck,

Al Lowe

Thanks for the tips guys. I unistalled the game and then re-installed just Red Baron II. Same thing crashes as its loading after you click "Fly Now" :'( yet with the 3D patch I can play a solo flight in multiplare, but its on a very small box in the middle of my screen. ???

Virtual memroy shouldnt be a prob as I can run some real memory eating programs without a hitch.

When the game crashes and tries to go back to the desktop, the setting for the desktop are all screwed up. 16 bit colour and 640x480 size compared to what it is normaly, High Colour 16 bit, 1024x768.

Another thing you might try is a little freeware program called "End it all". You start it, configure it, and click on the button "End it all" and it will shut down any program you haven't protected.

I usually protect Windows Explorer, and the little program that controls the sound volume.

VBR,
