In my newest Historic Aviation catalog, received just yesterday, is an advertisement for a book titled "Mother of Eagles". It was originally published, in 1937, under the title of "My War Diary" by Baroness von Richthofen.

According to the advertisement blurb, it contains many letters from the Richthofen brothers along with their mother's view point re the war.

Has anyone read this book and, if so, would you give me an opinon on it before I order it?

Thanks in advance.

Kirby,

I have a german language copy from the 1930s. I have read it and do recommend buying it. There is a lot of interesting information besides what went on between friefrau von Richthofen and her sons, such as, the prices for potatoes etc, through the course of the war, what headlines were in the newspapers, etc. It offers an excellent glimpse of the home front in east prussia during the war. Peter Kilduff and other authors have already mined it for Manfred and Lothar related stuff, but there is still a lot there that is interesting, including Menzke bragging on 'Der Herr Rittmeister' and going on about how 'Der Herr Rittmeister' spends his days at the aerodrome etc. I say get it.

regards,

MDD

Michael-Thanks for your kind reply. I was about 95% ready to buy it but you've convinced me completely. I'll see if the AF Museum book store has it first before I order it from the catalog. The folks at the book store always smile when they see me coming. They know they have an easy sale. 8)

Kirby:

Thanks for the info on this book. I'll try and get a copy myself.
