Glad to see we have some shooters and collectors of firearms among the members. If you have some pictures of your collection, how about posting a link here?
Here is a link to a few of mine. These are the ones that have that pesky 4473 albatross 'round their necks!

100% Pro 2nd
My "collection" is the mandatory .22 (Old Mongomery Wards Job, that happens to be valued at a grand total of $35.00 but will drive nails at 100yards). A Mossberg 500 no frills standard, a M1917 U.S. Enfield Sporterized in 30,06 with a very nice peep site I refuse to replace with a scope, and a vintage 1945 Russian SKS.

* My favorite "assault weapon" remains the 1943 Dauntless dive bomber that Dad and I restored and flew *(hence the e-mail nom de guerre.) *Curious thing about military airplanes, though: the mideast terrorists didn't have any bombers so they took four of our airliners and turned them into offensive weapons.
* Otherwise I'm partial to John M. Browning designs: pistols, MGs, and even lever-action rifles. *For long-distance ballistic commuting, the Steyr SSG is just awesome.
* Ironic to note that the greatest mass murder in US history didn't involve one shot fired. *But a single 5-shot revolver even with frangible ammo could've saved hundreds of lives among the thousands lost. *While sky marshals may be helpful, they're only a partial answer--there can't possibly be enough of 'em. *However, active and retired cops, military, and CCW holders offer a huge pool for hijacking prevention, if only the authorities would wise up.
* Don't hold your breath...

SBD-5,
Last I knew there were only 2 airworthy SBDs. Is yours one of these, or have you added a 3rd to airworthy status?
It's a shame that an aircraft that was such a key to victory in the Pacific has so little representation on the warbird circuit.

Well, that's one way of avoiding smashing your thumb.
I don't have a "collection" per se. My SO and I both have Ruger 9mm, and Kimber .45's. I just got her a S&W Model 60 (.357 magnum) with a 2" barrel for concealability.
Hopefully I'll pick up a working rifle in the near future....I'm thinking of a Moisin or a Mauser, unless I'm lucky and find a Springfield at a great price. The thought of having to pause between shots is intriguing.

Rex,
Yeah I am a diehard 2nd Amendment Absolutist. I won't go into all that is in my collection, but I have a couple of twin Colt .45 Auto M1991A1's that could've wreaked havoc on a terrorists body. Putting Sky Marshals on the plane is okay, but I think we should put Specwar types on there IMHO.
Regards,
Tom Paine

Rex, our bird went to the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico but I understand it's going to be traded to the USAF Museum because it's actually an A-24 while the Dayton folks have an SBD-3A (for army) so everybody will be happy. No longer being in the warbird community, I've sorta lost track but I think the number of flying and airworthy Dauntlesses is up around 5-6, plus those on static display. I know of two more under long-term restoration to airworthy status. Nearly 6,000 SBDs or A-24s were built 1940-44 so the survival rate is somewhat better than for many other WW II warbirds.

HEY MIKE
At the gun shows (there's that word again) I've notice a lot of 8mm M48 Yugoslav Mausers in excellent condition at very good prices. I even bought one myself. You might want to check them out.

This indisputable truth deserves to be reprinted and reread:

I am a firm supporter of the right to self defense. I do not collect guns per se, but I have tried hard to assemble the basic tools necessary for the difficulties that my decendents may face. My current personal companion is a Walther P99 in 9mm. I love Walther's products, it is utterly reliable and best of all, I can shoot more quickly and accurately with this weapon than any other, save my beloved little PPK/S. I can put bullet holes through my bullet holes at 20 yards... tremendously accurate.
When concealability (I just made up that word) is primary, I fall back on my PPK/S. Great little gun. Mine is in .380 caliber. Don't laugh... I can hit with it, and even a .380 will give you a bloody bad headache.
