So do you have a fav aircraft out of the ones you have built?

Also I take it you prefer WWI aircraft?

WW I aircraft are my favorites. However, when it came to R/C modeling, until recently I always wanted to fly fast, overpowered, aerobatic types. I've done that, so now I'm looking to build a stable of scale WW I R/C models and work on flying them in a scale manner.

When you say Scale flying I assume you mean dogfighting? If so do you use streamers attached to the tail of each aircraft involved in the dogfight with the purpose of cutting the others streamer?

Not quite! *That kind of stuff is reserved for small disposable aircraft made of styrofoam and PVC.

I'm talking about slow flight without any aerobatics more radical than steep banks, split S's, and Immelmans, with maybe a little formation flying and wide circling tailchases thrown in.

:-X I do remember seeing control line combat with streamers trailing behind the planes so thought that maybe you did the same with these. But if I had one of your planes and crashed it I would never talk to myself again.

So its graceful flying you do.

I'd like to think so!

Here is a link to one of the photo pages on the website maintained by one of the members of my R/C club:
http://www.metrocast.net/~peterkev/rcphoto/photo1.htm
The topmost picture on the right hand side of that page is a typical styrofoam and PVC "disposable" combat plane. As a matter of fact, that is my father's combat Corsair (sans cowl, destroyed in combat!), and he's the one holding it. We fly streamer combat and full-contact combat with these planes.

Unfortunately, you won't find any photos of me or my planes there, I've just recently started to fly again after being away from it for a bit more than a year.

Great videos DJ, there are some new ones since my last visit. Was that the sound of a .22 rifle on the Eindecker video? Do you have a shooting range near your field? How long is your runway? It seems many of the visiting pilots have trouble slowng down their planes enough to land in the confines of your field!

We have a 320' grass runway with very clear approaches on both ends, yet many visiting modelers say claim it is 'too short' to fly their models. They seem to stop complaining when I tell them my father and I have flown his Vector and a Hurricane U/L in and out of there several times!

Well thats something new to me. Flying R/C in the snow. Here down under flying seems to be done in summer. Well thats when I have seen it done.

Do you have inter club combat days??

We have very strict noise laws here so the days of flying in your local park are long gone. I can remember as a kid seeing guys flying their Cox control line planes in a local park.

But I see there is a way around the noise laws. Electric engines. *;D
