Rex, Our runway is 1000ft long. There are trees surroundingmuch of the field. Most issues arise from folks starting to flair a hundred feet up. I can usually put my planes down in the first hundred feet either way.. Ross, We do goof around dog fighting with our 1/4 scales butg nothing really aggressive. I have an article coming out in April in the American mag Model Airplane News which will have plans for a .25 SE5 and Fokker DVII. These have been designed for combat. Sudjested rules will also be included.

Dog fighting must be awhole lot more fun this way than in front of a PC screen.

Do you get many crashes this way ???

Crashes with the PVC and foam combat planes are fairly common.

My most memorable was when I got so involved in the chase, I strained my foam Zero right through the branches of a tree. One second I had a complete airplane, and the next second I had a fuselage with no wings, and no vertical or horizontal stabilizer rocketing out the other side of the tree, doing a credible impression of a lawn dart!

It was only slightly faster than normal, but the roll rate was phenomenal! I bet it rolled more than 20 times in the 2 or 3 seconds before it hit the ground.

With the WWI combat planes, midairs result in a substantial points penalty. They do happen though. The nice thing is that small, lightly built, strong planes bounce well. My .25 SE5 has cartwheeled down the runway with not so much as a broken prop.
