Having recently watched this movie (Robert DeNiro & Cuba Gooding), can any forumites out there tell me how accurate it was? Having noted the glaring inaccuracies of The Patriot, U-571,etc., I was just wondering.
Also, are the forces of political correctness working overtime in Hollywood these days?
It seems every movie which comes out featuring African-American protagonists, Glory, etc. insists on portraying African-American men as courageous, decent, honest men one and all, and white American men as for the most part ignorant cowardly racists. Lets have some balance!

Terry:
I'm with you, I saw this movie recently too and also wondered how accurate it was. And I agree with needing to have some balance!
Cheers,
Amy

Just saw "Behind Enemy Lines" which has no major roles for blacks (though the ForceRecon CO is a black captain) and no female roles to speak of. Most unusual, but it's touted on strength of Gene Hackman and Owen Whatisname. Good shootemup with some notable lapses but that's to be expected.
Lots of different kinds of guns (no hosses, though)

I've actually considered seeing both of these, but I'm afraid I'll be disappointed (like I was with Pearl Harbor.)

I took my girlfriend and her daughter to see Pearl Harbor and, of course, they both loved it. I did read some reviews on it beforehand and one reviewer put it into a perspective I could live with. She said as far as historical accuracy goes, it was a lot like Gone with the Wind...a love story based around a historical event but very little in the way of historical fact. With that in mind before I saw it, I didn't mind it nearly as much as if I had gone to see it expecting a newer version of Tora! Tora! Tora! ....So, I found it entertaining but, alas, a movie ABOUT Pearl Harbor, it ain't!
But, for me, Tora! Tora! Tora! towers above Pearl Harbor in every category I can think of except special effects (and "Tora's" are pretty impressive as they are!). But then Pearl Harbor has the benefit of much better technology. Titanic was the same way to me.....great special effects, an 'ok' plot premise that was then carried to the point of idiocy...and the old black/white "A Night to Remember" is, for me, a far better movie despite being 30+ yrs older.
The thing that does really bother me about movies like this is that in today's educational system, many young people seeing movies like this will think that is how it really happened because schools don't teach much about American History anymore. .....Hey, come to think of it, they didn't teach all that much about it in my day, either. I learned most of what I did about WW1 and WW2 from the High School library on my own time.

Other movies that I *will* see: Lord of the Rings, Blackhawk Down, and Wind Talkers. The latter promises a great deal of PCdom ("The code talkers could win the war") but I like the look of it. If Blackhawk literally is half as good as the book, it'll be just fine.
