Just a quick warning, Charles. Many years ago I spent a pleasant few days in Scotland looking up ancestral haunts. I had a fine time and met some extraordinarily fine people. The Glaswegians were among the nicest, BUT I NEVER UNDERSTOOD ONE WORD IN TEN.
I shudder to ponder what they thought my Yankee tin ear and "speech impediment!"

I knew a person from Glasgow when I lived in Israel.
If you think his English was funny, you should have heard his Hebrew.

During my six years in Cyprus I nearl always had to repeat anything I said in Greek. In contrast, we had a Glaswegian on the strength who had an accent you could cut with a knife even when speaking Greek. He never had a problem!

Spent a lovely day with the Scots in a Glaswegian pub. Lovely, but contentious people.
The more beer I drank, the easier it was to communicate-up to a point.
