"The United Nations and its Secretary-General Kofi Annan collected the centenary Nobel Peace Prize on Monday for their work for a better organized and more peaceful world."

Yeah, just ask the people in Israel, Rwanda, Kosovo, The World Trade Center (ooops, that's not around any more), Kashmir, Northern Ireland, etc, etc, etc.
They'll all tell you how the UN has prevented hostilities.
I wonder what the Nobel committee was smoking this time.

(Don't forget the International Gun Grabbing Initiative.)

Making a world of war and strife into a peaceful world is really quite simple, Mike.

First, you raise your own army (with other peoples' soldiers and other peoples' money). Then you don't call them soldiers anymore... you rename them "peacekeepers." Then you find a place where there is no peace to keep, and you send in your "peacekeepers" with tanks and heavy weapons. You then proclaim yourself the good guy, claim every one of your casualties to be a martyr, and everyone who opposes your absolute control (over THEIR nation) to be an extremist faction. Then, of course, you demand that everyone give up their guns (except you).

POOF! A magic world of peace.

How'd I do?

I'll bet Boutros Boutros-Ghali's little feelings were hurt real bad.

Ahh, it's always the simplest solutions that work best. I'll recommend you for the Nobel Prize next year.

* ref. the same issue of Small Arms Review I mentioned in the round counter thread (August '01). *There's a precious interview with a PRC mouthpiece hyping the UN "disarmament" movement. (i.e., WE disarm; THEY don't.)
* Q: Why does your report make no mention that as many as 2.5 million Americans use guns every year in self defence?
* A: I have to go. I have a lunch engagement in 3 minutes.

Wow! Talk about weaseling out.
If you had asked Clinton the same question, he would have answered, "That depends on what the meaning of 'use' is.".

His report also failed to mention that way more than 2.5 million Americans are not giving up their guns to the UN or anyone else for any reason.

Nazi Germany, Cambodia, Japan, the Soviet Union and a few dozen others have set very clear examples which we do not wish to follow... thank you very much.

Not-so-bold prediction: If we don't get rid of the UN, some future freedom-loving generation will have to do it the hard way.

You'll notice that the terrorists never attack the UN.
Why bite the hand that gives you free reign?
