I have lovingly fondled many a Kimber Ultra Carry in the dark corners of my local gun shop. However, the relationship never lasted... she was too expensive. For the same money, I found I could shoot someone at least 15 more times with several small calibers tucked in various pockets. Now, honestly, isn't that a lot more fun?

Stephen,
My Kimber Pro-Carry HD cost $740 here (Seattle area).
Declare yourself a "disadvantaged minority" and ask the gummint to channel $$$ your way.
After all, there's no oversight (I guess it's due to an oversight, eh?).

Stephen:

I wear a Galco Stealth shoulder rig. When you are out and about and you are compelled to use public facilities, a belt holster is inconvenient. Where do you put your piece while you are seated upon the crapper?

"Where do you put your piece while seated..."
I don't know about current doctrine but at API in the '70s they advocated placing the piece in your undies betwixt your ankles where it was easily accessible. Presumably not many rest-room patrons search beneath the stalls for such things.
Otherwise, there's that convenient clothes hook on the inside of the door!

That beats putting it on the floor, but I always worry about someone opening the door to the stall with my sidearm hanging on the hook. Inside the skivvy shorts is okay, I guess, but a shoulder rig eliminates the problem.

I heard a story about a 1911 packing cop in Chicago(IIRC) in the early 70's.

He went into a stall at the station house to do his business and hung his 1911 on the coathook . After finishing his business, he gripped his pistol, brushed off the safety accidently then proceeded to empty his pistol at near cyclic rate as the hook depressed the trigger, recoil bounced it backwards and his efforts to control the pistol forced the trigger back into the hook repeatedly.

I wear mine IWB behind the right hip, when I sit down at a public toilet (always a last resort because of the sidearm!) I reach around behind my right leg and flop the weight of the pistol over toward the crotch area of the pants where it stays put, hanging on the belt.

I've seriously looked at Galco shoulder rigs before; you must like them or you wouldn't have one, eh? The right arm strap of my current rig is narrow and tends to cut up under my arm a bit... just enough to require occasional adjustment. Tell me about Galco. I know they are all leather... are they so wide that they kill concealment and get hot in the summer?

And yes, I use the coat hook (BUSTED!). But I always check the lock.

The intellectual level of the discussions here astounds me.

Shooter,
There's one problem with a shoulder rig....on a hot day, when all you're wearing topside is a t-shirt, it's not really concealable.
I'd opt for the IWB, and place the piece on the toilet paper holder until I'm finished. The boxes are usually big enough to hold most pistols.
VBR,
Mike

*LOL* Mike, in some of the stalls I've been in the toilet paper is on the floor and there are glory holes drilled in the walls. Chasing skips does not always take you into the nice part of town.

Stephen, Galco rigs are super, but there is no way to get around the restriction that the harness puts on your shirt. No air-flow is a REAL problem Down East on the Crystal Coast (no less so in Raleigh, where a lot of the business is) in the summer. Get the tie-down straps for your belt. You can always release them when you drop your trousers. *heh-heh*

Gosh, Rex, that sounds like a war story to me, but whadaIknow?

I make no claims to firsthand knowledge of the incident. I agree it seems unlikely, especially with a functional grip safety, but this is the way I heard (or read, I can't recall) the story years ago.
