On a radio discussion last night a contributor described the WTC bombing and the bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima as being equals in terrorism.I immediatly rang the radio station concerned to point out that there could be NO comparison as the one act was intended to stop a war whereas the others intention was to start one.Needless to say I was not put on air.Has anybody else got examples of terrorism being compared with examples of "legitimate" warfare?[Please note that as an englishman I cannot accept that the IRA are "freedom fighters".They have the vote, others do not.]

The media is definitely biased toward the left. How many times have you seen people who blow up innocent civilians referred to as "freedom fighters"?
I've stopped counting the times that "liberal" talk show hosts, when they get a caller who can successfully challenge their ideas, cut the caller off or insult him to shut him up. I've never heard a conservative host act that way. Conservatives foster free discussion, preferring to let the ideas speak for themselves.
Your experience is not unique. There's a new book out that's making waves and has media bigwigs seething. It's called "Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News" by Bernard Goldberg.

What can I say. Welcome to the wonderful world of political correctness and historical revisionism. If you are a Caucasian Anglo-Saxon male you are now officially the BAD GUY.

Ain't it a grand and glorious feeling? :

I would think the Native Americans feel
the European take over of North America
was terrorism,I think ,many Southern
Americans felt and feel when the Union
crossed the Mason/Dixon line it was terrorism.
I feel Secession was terrorism.
And many a Irishmen feel the British rule
of Ireland is terrorism.
Terrorism is in the eyes of the beholder

Slight difference,Baron,Great Britain had an Empire;Ireland was part of that Empire and Hey!!Guess What??so was America .And years back when I went to apply for a mortgage I asked if I could get help from my local council towards repairing the fabric of the house[something they used to do]I was told I could just as long as I was Black,Female,Lesbian and a single parent.Being none of the above I didn`t even bother to apply

Mike:

Please tell me that you meant to add a smiley or something to show that you weren't serious about conservative talk show hosts not cutting off, shouting down and insulting callers who reasonably challege their views.

Regards,
Wayne

Wayne,
I lived in the SF area for years, and listened mostly to talk radio, especially KGO and KSFO (they're sister stations).
The moderate and conservative hosts, by and large, were willing to let anyone speak his mind, and unless the caller was obviously an absolute idiot or a mental case, the host would let him finish before responding.
However, left-wing hosts, such as Bernie Ward and Ray Taliafarro, routinely humiliated callers whose views were not compatible with those of these hosts. On KSFO the hosts were more often than not very "liberal" about letting the callers have their say (except for Dr. Laura, but she's another animal entirely).
(OK, I'll grant you that most of the people listening to conservative stations do so because they don't like what they hear from the other side's stations.)
Also, you can go into any conservative bookstore and find works by Noam Chomsky, et al. Go into a liberal bookstore, and if they have works by F.A. Hayek, Tom Sowell, Larry Elder, or any conservative author at all, they're hidden in the back room in order to protect the public from such "dangerous" ideas.
VBR,
Mike

Mike:

Maybe we get a different version here on the East Coast. Actually, where I live the only "liberal" radio talk shows that even get airtime are on NPR. As to bookstores, they promote what ever is selling best at the moment. I noticed that you didn't mention Rush Limbaugh. I'm glad of that. I wish that he had lost the use of his tongue instead of his left ear.

Regards,
Wayne
