Chip:
The Pfalz D.VIII was codeveloped with a single bay D.VII, both powered with the 160ps SH III engine. Idflieg selected the Pfal.D.VIII for production and award a contract for 100 machines, serial numbers D.100 -199/18 on 26 March 1918. The production D.VIII machines were powered with the improved Sh IIIa engines also as they became available. The Pfal. D.VIII served in small numbers Jasta "B"(2), 29, 73 and half of KEST 1a. It served to the end of the war. It had a very good rate of climb, better than the BMW IIIa powered Fok. D.VII, on a par with the SSW D.III.
Blue skies,
