To All
Hi as a new guy here was wondering if anyone may help with ongoing research project. I`m interested in 25 Sqn RFC around March/Aril 1917, where were they based?, at the time they flew FE2 before changing to DH 4 in later in that year. My "chap" was an observer and was killed before the sqn change to DH 4, anyone have information re FE2 d, or 25 sqn RFC for this period or anyone have information on 2 LT HENRY SCOTSON RICHARDS. TIA.

Peter.

25 Sqn was based at Auchel between 1 April 1916 and 10 October 1917 and used the FE2b (to May 1917), FE2d (March to June 1917); the unit got DH4s in June 1917.

Your "chap" was the observer in the photographic machine (FE2d A6371) escorted by other FE2ds of 25 Sqn. At about 16:30 the patrol was attacked near Lens and two FEs were brought down, 2nd Lt D P MacDonald and 2nd Lt J I M O'Beirne in A6382 by Manfred von Richthofen and Lt L Dodson and 2nd Lt H S Richards by Karl Schaeffer. The two pilots both survived as PoWs but both observers were killed.

Graeme, Many thanks for this information it is a great help and with other parts of this wonderful site I now have a fuller picture of what happened to "my chap" and am able to fill in a lot of gaps in my research project.

Peter.
