In Alex Revell's fantastic work, "High In the Empty Blue", there is a photo on page 190 of a crashed S.E.5a showing a pilot reported to be Arthur P.F. Rhys-Davids under the wreckage. Since Mr. Revell's exhausive research of 56 Squadron convinces me of it's authenticity, I'm still left wondering if anyone has been able to concur the assertion. Also, were the Germans aware at the time that they had avenged Voss'death? If so, it would seem that they would have accorded him an honorable burial, but his resting place has never been ascertained. Can anyone shed a light?

Considering the nature of Voss's funeral, or lack there of, I don't see why the German's would have made a big deal of the burial of Rhys-Davis, had they known he had shot down Voss or not. I assume if they knew he had shot down Voss, they would have used his demise for the propoganda front.
