The life in the trenches was very hard. There were a lot of soldiers dying from the poor living conditions. But most deaths were from being shot or shelled by the Germans. There are still logbooks out there, which have sad stories.
A lot of people suffered from World War 1, a lot of people died in all of the countries that fought on Britain's, Germany's or the peace keeper's sides. But there were only 2 reasons why it started: -
1. Some Bosnian assassins attacked the Austrian, Franz Ferdinand.
2. The Austrians reacted and threatened to invade Serbia.
We have some evidence on this: -
I was one of the members of the terrorist band in Belgrade, which received it.
The little clipping declared that the Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand would visit Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia, June 28, to direct army manoeuvres in the neighbouring mountains.
It reached our meeting place; the cafe called Zeatna Moruna, one night the latter part of April 1914. To understand how great a sensation that little piece of paper caused among us when it was passed from hand to hand almost in silence, and how greatly it inflamed our hearts, it is necessary to explain just why the Narodna Odbrana existed, the kind of men that were in it, and the significance of that date, June 28, on which the Archduke was killed
Their Germans started to approach Belgium and Britain dug some trenches. The Germans arrived and they were confident that they could defeat the British in a few weeks. It turned into Months, and ended up being 4 years…
The war was fought hard by all of the countries that were involved. There were a lot of countries in the war that lost over 6 million people and over 10 million people were wounded.
There were a couple of good times in the trenches. The English soldiers were said to have played football against the German soldiers. This happened every Christmas.
