This is the story of recon observer in 1916, who rode int he back seat of a Rumpler CI (per photo)in Flt. Abt. 17 in the French sector. This is a vivid autobiographical account of being an observer in the German Air Service.

I am fortunate to have found a copy of 'Doubledecker 666' (lit. translation of Doppledecker 666, sb 'Bi Plane 666') by Heydemarck.

Is his second of 3 books (3rd on Macedonia) Flt. Abt. 17 the same book? Should I look for it?

FA 17 is NOT the same book as C666 and I highly recommend it. Good luck finding a copy.

David:

Actually, we're talking trilogy here. Georg W. Haupt-Heydemarck wrote three books about his service. The English-language translations are:

DOUBLE-DECKER C.666. London, Hamilton, 1934. 207 pp., illus.

FLYING SECTION 17. London, Hamilton, 1934. 178 pp., illus.

WAR FLYING IN MACEDONIA. London, Hamilton, 1934. 196 pp., illus.

I agree with Rick, all are worth the effort in finding them. Try the usual suspects, abebooks.com and bibliofind.com. Happy hunting!

VBR,

Ira
