Hey guys. I need pictures of German parachutes... parachutes in actual use, packs on the back of pilots and airplanes, and anything else you can think of. Three or four good ones would suffice, but I need at least two of parachutes actually in use. Via email, or hard copy that I can return to you. If any of you guys could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I have a photo of a fellow jumping out of a balloon with a Paulus type and a 1927 Schroeder parachute company book on the post war Heinecke type (almost identical). Would this be of any use to you?

Actually, both of these posts are very helpful. Rick, any photos you might be able to send along would be most appreciated. What is the best way for you to transfer them? Since they are post war, a brief explanation of the differences would be necessary but the pics would still be most helpful. Thanks again.

In The Jasta Pilots there is a picture of Ltn Gustav Fradrich of Jasta 7 being fitted with a Heinecke Parachute Harness...

Unfortunatly I do not have a scanner, but perhaps another member of the Forum can post it for you...

Regards,
Scotty

Scotty:
Ltn. Gustav Frädrich was Deputy Führer of Jasta 72s under Ltn. Karl Menckhoff and on 23 October 1918 became Führer. He joined Jasta 72s on 26 March 1918.

Stephen,

Off the top of my head, I recall the Raesch Diary (Js 43) being published in a C&C (USA) issue (the exact one escapes me), where there were some photos of Ltn. (?) Schmidt after his parachute descent (face burned), and also some photos of Heinicke (sp?) parachutes attached to various pilots. If you want, I can take a day and research this further for you. Hey, what the heck, I'm officially retired. Rick

The article on parachute jumps, with photos, is in Volume 6, Number 4. The previous post was the Jasta 43 diary.
