This is an example of what could happen, gentlemen, when you shout "Tally Ho!" before pressing "enter"...

Ah, but some of the more enlightened regimes such as the Chinese would be likely to charge your family an extra sixpence or two for the extra ammunition, wouldn't they?

Above The Trenches shows "McIrish" with 46 based on combat reports etc with one more being "credited" in a note dropped by the Germans confirming his death. Using the information in the SE5 file it is possible to make his total up to 48.

Ginger

When it comes to quoting numbers, who knows the right answer? This far down the line it's almost impossible to tell who did what to whom so we can mostly likely only guess.

Larking aside, wasn't Mannock the top-scoring Irish ace?

Greame,

Excuse me butting in, but according to the "Aces" list on this site Mannock was born in Aldershot, England of an English mother and Scots father, which ties in with what I've read elsewhere. I'd say he was a "British" ace.

Air Aces of the 1914-1918 War has him listed as being born in Aldershot, Oughton's Ace With One Eye gives it as Preston Cavalry Barracks, Brighton, Taffy Jones' Tiger Squadron says Cork while (I believe) Jim Dudgeon's book carried a copy of Mannock's "ticket" that had Cork written on it. I must get myself a copy the book to keep - I'm getting tired traipsing up to the local library only to find their sole copy is on extended loan!
