Are there any resources or information on eugene bullard. Looking for photos of him when he was flying and of his airplane. Thanks.

There was a book done about him, but it is VERY hard to find. Try bibliofind.com Someone on that network may have a copy. They list over 1 million books.

There are two biographies of Bullard available.

The first, PJ Carisella's THE BLACK SWALLOW OF DEATH (Boston, Marlborough, 1972)was the best available 29 years ago.

A very recent publication by Craig Lloyd: EUGENE BULLARD - BLACK EXPATRIATE IN JAZZ-AGE PARIS (Athens, University of Georgia, 2000)is a fine academic study of the man and his times. The first 70 pages (of 214) covers his life through the end of The Great War. It's currently available on-line through Barnes & Noble or Amazon.

Try the book CANVAS FALCONS (fail to recall the author). The book is a popular history of French fighter aces, but includes a chapter on Eugene Bullard - with photo. Quite a man and quite a life; IMHO he is highly deserving of a Hollywood film on his life.
