I know this sounds a little crazy, but take a peek into JANES FIGHTING AIRCRAFT OF WW1. It has a large section on engines and the Mercedes DIIIa is scrutinized at length.

I think there are several good sources for these. I believe the Smithsonian's book on their Albatros D.Va restoration also includes some. I'll have to check.

Hi R.G.,

Where are you going with this? If you are building a model, there is a very good book out of Australia. If you are doing more, there may be other possibilities as well.

Best,
Dave W.

Hi RG!
The book is called "The Daimler Mercedes D.IIIa Aircraft Engine. A Guide for Modellers." by Paul Butler. You can reach him at the following address:
Ibina Holdings P/L
Box 446,
Heidelberg,
Victoria. 3084

The cost, when I purchased a copy, was Aus $22 plus Aus $6 for postage. With our dollar down the sewer, you should pick one up for a song!
Hope this helps. If you have any trouble, e-mail me and I'll see what I can do.
Les
