A man fights hard for his country above & beyond.
A pioneer for his time.
Helps find site for airport for the state of IND.
throw in a few ideas he came up with to help protect fello comrads.
And so much more that an Airport named the port after him in HONOR. Then 32 yrs later take it down so they can put up international & state name to draw more people.

Heres my question ? How in the world can you give such an HONOR & then take it back??????
Its like giving a plaque to honor someone then say oh,need it back cause we can reuse it.
Confused, wheres these peoples MORALS?????

Talking of Harvey Weir Cook WW1 Ace.
And how the Indianapolis,IN. Airport used his name in honor of Mr. Cook. Then 32 yrs later take it away as easy as they did. This is the first I ever heard of give & take of a American Hero, esp. for our state.

Sadly, people's memories are short.

Look at the bright side - at least they didn't give it a corporate name like Archer Daniel Midlands International Aiport.

Does anyone know about the municipal airport in Arkansas that was named after a WWI pilot who shot down during the "Lost Batallion" operation; who was awarded a posthumous MOH, only to have his name taken off that airport by none other than 'Honest Willie"???
Or how about Saint Peter who had a Russian town named after himself: St Petersburgh; renamed Leningrad? Or Volgagrad renamed Stalingrad?

Your question can be answered only by the people
who took the name away. Why don't you write them
a letter and ask them? If they don't answer to your satisfaction, write to your local newspaper
and ask. Get the American Legion and the VFW
involved. Find out what branch of the Armed
Service the person was in and write to the Chief
of Staff of that service and complain and ask him.
Write to your Congressman and both Senators and to
the President and ask them. You might be able to
stir up such a stink that the people who have done
this will be afraid and embarassed so much that they will restore the person's name to the airport
in some fashion or other. This will be more likely if you are not an adult...adults are easily embarassed by young people (the younger the
better) who publicly ask about immoral adult behavior.

I know this carries little in the way of healing effects, but I found it interesting that the Frank Luke Jr. memorial in Murvaux, France originally existed for another honored individual. I wouldn't blame anyone for resenting the 'changing of the names' but I do believe Serge Colin told me that the name originally connected to the memorial belonged to someone who died even before Luke lived.
The plaque Stephen Skinner replaced in November, is attatched to the memorial, which is essentially a series of steps leading to a large cross in the center. I think what Stephen did is really wonderful and I was honored to be present.

I already have media, due to the momorial myself & the 13 yr. old boyscouts are doing for Weir Cook. Were stating to the Indianapolis star this way" Were bring his name HOME" in HONOR. And it won't be taken down! Its on a 7,000 pd stone.
Yes i'm angry & I don't know if I want to let this one go! I have the family on my side.
