In OTF vol.15 spring, page 10, there is a group shot of Jasta 28 with a rather strangely decorated Albatros D.III in the hangar, said to have been flown by Ltn Ray, does anybody have any more information or pictures of this aircraft.

The photographic print came from UT/Dallas via Greg VanWyngarden. The print is about as good as what appears in OTF. On the back of the photograph the caption information stated that it might be violet and white. I don't know the source of this, whether it was from some other item or perhaps tonal interpretation. An intriguing subject! I also like the panoramic shot that goes full bleed with the whole Jasta 28w lineup. That was originally sent to me as two separate prints. It had been torn or something originally. As I studied the print getting it ready for use in the article it became apparent that they were the one big sweeping shot. I restored it digitally and cleaned it up. Quite effective. Several dark painted fuselages. At least one should be Schäfer's I'm thinking.

Hals und Beinbruch,

Aaron

...Oops, almost forgot. The caption also said it might be one of Franz Ray's aircraft. He flew several with the unit, each one interesting in it's own right.
