Hi guys,

I have found a better picture and am able to tell you this. The tail is dark blue? in color and has six white? horizontal stripes across the whole width of the tail. Just in front of the tail, on the right side is a V marking about four feet tall. There are two other large but less distinct, V markings behind the wing and cab. This appears to be a very modern plane, which could explain why after searching for hours, through aircraft archives, I have found no pictures of planes even remotely similar to this plane.
They could just be mapping the country-side, but light does not seem to be an issue. Anyone know any good links about surveillance planes. I have found none.

A Saab 340 ?

The saab 340 is about the same size, maybe a little smaller. But this plane I saw had none of the typically aerodynamic features you see on the saab. This bird had square, thin, long hi-tech looking non-swept wings and very slim, long motor pods. It was also a high wing T-tail.

A U-2 ?

The U-2 is the best example of the wings I can think of, but this plane is not. It is a low altitude plane.

Oh, cut it out Al! If you can't have fun with a snooping, paternalistic, spying, miserable bunch of out-of-control bureaucrats that our ancestors would (and should) have shot on site, what's the world coming to? Lighten up!

Personally, I'd like to find out what this plane is. And I had no idea that ANY version of the U2 was still flying!

I wish Billy Bishop were around to shoot this thing down so we could know what it is. Of course since that victory wouldn't be listed in the "official" german records - it wouldn't have happened. JUST KIDDING !

As to this strange bird - any Air Bases nearby ? Have you given them a call ?

As a kid (age 9) I once saw a C-130 crash (I thought) near Ravena NY. I called the ANG and told them one of their planes went down at a steep angle behind a hill and it may have crashed. Apparently they were doing a practice low altitude jeep drop and came out another end of the valley - but they were so thankful I got invited out there for a tour and later on actually got a ride in a tanker.

Maybe you can talk your way through for a ride aboard the Aurora !!!!

In eleven years it'll be 2112 - the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. Perhaps we can start gearing up now to try this Canadian annexation scheme again. I don't think the British would be so troublesome this time around.

The way Quebec is going, we won't have to Annex Canada. Quebec will eventually break away, and then the rest of Canada will apply for statehood with the USA.

Then I can move to Ontario without having to fill out all that bloody paperwork and without having to come up with $10,000.00CDN. But, then my favourite vacation spot will be more expensive, since they'll drop the Canadian dollar for the US dollar.

You know what, we should do everything we can to keep Canada in one piece. I'd hate to lose the exchange rate.

VBR,

Al Lowe
