When Bishop claimed to have shot all the wings off a 2-seater, and the crew fell out, there is no room for an honest mistake. It happened, or he lied.

Criag,
think you missed the point old chap.A blind man on a galloping horse could see that the RFC claims are over the top, that is constantly trumpeted here is not what irks me.What does is the repeated implication that the young men doing the job were habitual liars. The example I gave of the 109 pilots was aimed at showing that when you are engaged on purely offensive operations, you may well be doing far less damage than you truly BELIEVE that you are.

I thought he said the plane broke up in mid-air, not that he shot the wings off, which is it?

Ok, so more likely than not, they were wrong in some or many of their claims, does that make them liars? If so, then it makes liars out of ANYONE who ever put in a false claim, confirmed or not, good faith or not, and that includes the Red Baron!!

VBR,

Al Lowe

1919 saw the largest amount of propaganda the world has ever known! I hope to eventually contain it all in one book some day.

Why did this happen?

2 reasons:

1. The war in the air wasn't going good for the allies. 1918 saw HUGE losses!

2. "To the Victor goes the spoils".

As for WW1, I think America was on the wrong side. We now know that Arch Duke Ferdinand was indeed murdered. Well gee, if somebody offed my nation's leader (Clinton not included), I'd be pretty pissed about it.

Germany was Austria's ally, so naturally they joined with them, and things just escalated from there.
