Mick was seen in this state in the kitchen of Jim Eyles house.Mick lived with his family before the war.In public he could manage to keep up the facade of the great Hun-Killer,in private with his best friend he broke down.
Eyles could only conclude it was the thought of what was waiting for his friend in France as Mick refused to talk to him about it.
J,
if you have to ask why we should not forget men like Mick, you might think about changeing your letter to D for Dick head.

Ah, it's the classic stupider-than-thou attitude!

Now, stop it you two!
GOD DAMN IT, I said STOP IT!!!
Ginger, if anything, thank you for showing this aspect of the man; you've done his memory a service. Do you have any thoughts on what actually transpired on his last flight? Was it Jones to whom we owe the story, that Mannock, just before the final take-off, heard a bird singing, to which he opined, "He's just like me, filled with the joys of youth" (or some such?; of course he was being ironic...)

Taffy's writing does tend to be a bit over the top when the topic is Mick Mannock! As regards his last fight he had for a while been breaking every tactical rule he ever preached.I would like to think the burst that set his plane afire killed him outright,if not he endured the nightmare end he often predicted for himself. The personal items returned by the Germans showed evidence of slight burning, but were complete.Wether or not he used his Colt,as he had vowed he would do if trapped in a flamer,we will never know.

I think your right Ginger, since it's groundfire, one would think he would at least try to set down before burning to death. It's been done before, most noteable by Alan A Mcleod. He must have been killed by the burst.
