Happy birthday

Today, 20 May, is my birthday.

All those years ago, just to signify my arrival, a lady called Elizabeth had a bit of a bash and got hit on the head - well, I was later told that she had been crowned!

At about the same time, another lass called Hillary climbed a mountain and ended up getting knighted for it.

The only person I know to have shared this date with me (apart from my step brother) was Jimmy Stewart and I mourn their passing.

One pertinent date, aeronautically speaking, was the first balloon ascent by women on 20 May 1784 (I may be old, but even I don't remember that far back!) The Marchioness de Montalembert, the Countess de Montalembert, the Countess de Podenas and Mademoiselle de Lagarde went aloft in a tethered Montgolfier balloon from the Faubourg-Saint-Antoine, Paris.

I raise my glass to every who shares "my" day.
