Late versions of the Taube monoplane were used by Germany and Austria-Hungary even in 1916. In 1915 machineguns for observers in 2-seaters were in common use. But I never found any sources or specifications of an armed Taube aircraft. It is hard to believe that Germany/Austria-Hungary sent unarmed planes on reconaissance missions in 1916.

Was there something like a field modification for an armed (for the observer) Taube aircraft?

Thanks in advance!
Volker Nemsch

Volker Nemsch:
I have reviewed the German Frontbestand Class A listing and the Rumpler/Etrich Taube A/13 and A/14 aircraft were withdrawn in November 1914. The Listing for 31 October 1914 is: A/13, 0. A/14, 3 aircraft. On the 31 December 1914 there were none listed. By the end of 1915 all of the Tauben A types had been with drawn from all the fronts. I would doubt that any of the Tauben were ever armed and flown in operational use. Those Class "A" stil on the Frontbestand List were Fokker and Pfalz A types. The various Tauben were quickly replaced with the AEG B.I and B.II, the Alb. B/12, B/13, B, B.I and B.II and also the Av.B.13, Av.B. B.I aircraft.
