Does anyone have reliable info on the first bombs dropped on the U.K. (Dover 24.12.14?). Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a note that the first attack was carried out on 21 December 1914 by a single aeroplane from the Fliegerkorps des Obersten Heeresleitung. My original typed note says it was probably an Aviatik BI by a later manuscript entry suggests a Friedrichshafen FF29. Either way, two bombs were dropped, both falling into the sea off Admiralty Pier, Dover. Three days later another aeroplane from this unit dropped a single bomb that exploded close to Dover Castle.

These attacks caused neither damage nor casualties. There is a plaque near the castle commemorating the second event - I'll see if I've got a picture of it.

I think Brandt & Ilges were the first to bomb London but at the moment I can't find my notes that might confirm this. If memory serves, the bombs fell in the area near Victoria railway station.

I'll go and find my notes. As Arnie says in one of his movies "I'll be back".

Brandt & Ilges dropped the first bombs on london from an aeroplane on 28 November 1916. Six bombs were dropped and six people were injured. By this date, London had been attacked at least 8 times by airships.

Another first - a personal one:

Have returned from the Biggin Hill Air Display where I witnessed my first crash at such an event. Yesterday (Saturday) evening, a DH Vampire crashed into a field near the airfield and both the crew were killed. Today, a King Cobra failed to pull out of its dive and it hit the ground only a couple of hundred yards from where my family and I were watching. Needless to say, the pilot was killed outright. Can't recall an air display where there were fatal accidents on consecutive days.
