Try some of the small breweries: Moosehead, Creemore, Upper Canada - makes Molson's (and even Labatt's) taste synthetic.

It is nothing but amusing to note how a thread presumably involving Billy Bishop but really regarding a stale fact about British Parliament goes through topics such as Pamela Anderson, Basketball, and finally Beer! I must add some things, too, gentlemen, if it is allowed!
Firstly, beer tastes like beer the world over - it's all the same. Does anyone know any good Canadian or English vinyards?
Second, REAL sports include cricket, fencing, sailing and baseball. For those of you who are interested in the rules of cricket, these sites will be of interest:
http://www-rsa.cricket.org/link_to_d...NAL/ICC/RULES/
http://control-lab.et.tudelft.nl/~ha...t/cricket.html
Finally, my brother-in-law is always saying, "anything more than a handful is a waste."

Actually Canada produces some excellent wine, both in British Columbia and in the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario - Vineyards such as Hillebrand, Peller and several others have won golds internationally against the best that France, Spain etc. can offer.
And as my mother (from Welland Ont.) was fond of telling me, when large areas of French vineyards were wiped out by disease, they were restocked by plants sent over form Ontario.

Shameless plug for my current home state. Many of the vinyards in VA are in my county of residence, and its nice to take tours of these places.
Beer: my personal preference is Bass Ale. Go figure.
Stephanie, thanks for the links. I'll be looking those over soon. Maybe I should set up a field somewhere.
VBR,
John

How about a pint or twelve of "Theakston's Old Perculiar". Or my own local favourite "Robinson's Exhibition Ale", so called because after two or three you're guaranteed to make an exhibition of yourself.

Beer tastes the same the world over? Not sure about that. While I don't mind sampling the local brew (often to excess) when I'm abroad, it's so nice when you get back home, visit your local hostelry and tip back a few jars of what you haven't had for a fortnight.
Personally, I prefer Shepherd Neame Master Brew, Spitfire or, at a pinch (pun intended), Bishop's Finger.

Quite a few years back, "Runner's World" magazine had an article on the top 10 beers in the world. Surprisingly, San Miguel (Philippines) came in first. I think Anchor Steam was 4th.

Al,
Didn't the mega-thread have a sub-series on beer (as well as guitar players, and The Towel).
Anyone know if it ever made it into the Archives?

Towel? Who said Towel?
Stephanie's right--beer DOES taste the same the world over. I've been to the San Miguel brewery in the PI, and judging by the fortifications (concertina wire & watchtowers) it must be a strategic asset 'cause it's guarded like Ferdinand Marco's palace--or at least the palace I saw. That was long before anybody knew (much less cared) about Imelda's shoes.
Marcos may have been a tinhorn corrupt dictator (OK, OK, he definitely WAS a tinhorn corrupt dictator) but by golly those were the days when he was OUR tinhorn corrupt dictator. Corry Aquino came along and the place went to hell in a hurry--she tried to extort more money from Uncle Sugar for basing rights. Next thing you knew, the dang volcano blew up and rendered Clark Field uninhabitable, reducing Subic Bay to marginal utility. Probably the only thing sustaining the PI economy anymore is Olongapo (Right, Jim?)
