I am researching this office who was killed on June 7th 1917.

He was an officer in the Sussex Regiment and was part of 43 squadron.

I understand he flew Sopwith 1 and 1 half Strutters and I believe that he was killed when his aircraft was hit by an artillery shell whilst he was on observation duties.

Can anybody help with any information about him?

Thank you.

Capt Donald Campbell Rutter served with No 43 Sqn RFC and gained the Military Cross - gazetted on 11 May 1917. He was was killed on 7 June 1917, together with his observer, 2nd Lt J B Jackson, during the course of a ground attack operation south east of Ypres in Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter A8221.
