I wanna know the meaning of KASTA, MFJ, MF, N, SPA....
what are their Full name...... & how many pilots belong, How many aircraft in each unit?...
Diffenece from Jasta or Escdrille?
I'll let someone else deal with the German acronyms & abbreviations. In French service, escadrilles were identified by an aircraft type and number designation. The number remained the same; the aircraft part of the identifier changed when the escadrille was re-equipped. So N.163 became SPA.163 when it replaced its Nieuports with SPADs. (MF was Maurice Farman; HF Henri Farman; and so on.)
Shim:
Kasta is Kampfstaffel,(Battle Squadron) a component unit of 6 C or G type aircraft that formed Kampfgeschwader (Battle Wing) made up of 6 Kasta and later 3 Kasta.
MFJ is Marine Feld Jagstaffel, Navy Field Squadron. composed of 14 single seat fighter aircraft.
Blue skies,
