Help! I'm still looking for one final picture; a shot of a parachute pack on the back of a German airplane. Anything of that sort at all. I've got everything else now, and thanks to all who have helped.
Hey, might there be one in an issue of OTF? If so I can find it myself if I know which issue.
Its best to email a copy of the pic to me. Please let me know what you guys might have. Thanks again.

Hello Stephen!
Have a look at this picture:

I think that this is the harness of the parachute pack.
Perhaps someone knows better!

Thanks, Volker. That is the parachute harness, and I'm also looking for a shot of the parachute pack itself. It's a back pack-looking thing that is stuck up on top of the fuselage just behind the pilot's head. Surely someone has done an OTF article on this!

Hi Stephen,
Hope you are doing well. If you have Imrie's "Pictorial History of the German Air Service" (Ian Allen,1971), on page 165 there is a fine photo of Ltn. Gustav Fraedrich of Jasta 72 being assisted with his Heinecke parachute harness and pack. The mechanic holds the pack; it's the best picture of this process as I've ever seen. I have a print of this photo, but unfortunately it's with a publisher right now. Also, I don't at this time have scanning equipment to help you out. Perhaps some other forumite can help.

Also see the next page in Imries book (p.166): "A pilot about to fly an Albatros D III having his Heinecke parachute pack attached to its harness with spring clips by his mechanics". The pack is on the back of the fuselage.
Regards, Immo

Everybody has this book but me! Arrg! I've already scoured all my German stuff and can't find a pic like that to save my life. Thanks for the effort, Greg. Good to hear from you. Immo, do you have the time/ability to scan it to me? Either or both would be fine, and I'd appreciate it greatly.

Hi Stephen,
I will scan and send the two pictures to you tomorrow. It's late here in Germany
Regards, Immo

Whoa! Fantastic! Thanks Rod, Greg and Immo. This will give me four excellent pics of the exact type that I need and that is plenty. Thanks again, all. I knew my Forumite pals would come through.
