After some MAJOR and HEATED debate - I am going to be 'allowed' to present some WW I information at a local school. The one teacher open to this (history and in particular military history aren't big items in "education" nowadays) wants a display for his classroom of all the leading aces in model form. I have over the years done most of them but Fonck and Baracca. I went through my refrences and found virtually nothing showing color schemes for Fonck - and no Nieuport schemes for Baracca. Can anyone point me in the right direction on the web ? Or other sources ?

Although no one viewing these will have the slightest clue as to accuracy - I would like them to be. Hopefully it will spark some interest in these kids. I was blown away by the lack of ANY historical knowledge shown by these high school juniors and seniors at a recent school function - to the level of not being real sure what role George Washington played in US history - most knew he was a President - about half knew he was the first president but that was it. Not one had even heard of Valley Forge or Yorktown. A honor student told me with real conviction that the US had won its independence from GERMANY !

Anyway before I rant and rave over the decay present in education today - please help me turn a small light on for them - thanks in advance !

Just for starters;"Nieuport Aces of WWI" by N.Franks has a profle of a Baracca Nieuport 17.Perhaps if you point out that the Ferrari emblem descended from the stallion painted on Baracca's planes you may connect to today's youth.Although I am a jr. high English teacher, I've had to take on Social Studies classes several years. One would think that kids would love WWI flyers-fast,dangerous machines, lots of shooting, reckless kids painting graffiti on government property, young celebrities coming to tragic ends. On the other hand...well, Good Luck!

Check the Baracca museum for Baracca and Wings of Glory for Fonck. Some of the Fonck site may be a little familiar.

cheers
