According to his discharge papers, my wife's grandfather served with the 650th US Aero Squadron during World War 1. Does anyone know what type of squadron this was, and what aircraft it operated?
The 650th was an Aero Supply Sqaudron and therefore did not actually fly anything. Supply sqdn's did just that - supplied other sqdn's with the many things they needed to operate. In the air service, nearly all units were refered to as 'sqaudrons'. It was the air services' equivalent of the infantries' 'company'.
