Those neophyte Commies meant "great" in the sense of "large" by all accounts.
The horst tail was as factual and true to life as the falderal about Fatty Arbuckle's pony.
As for Robert Stack: His mother introduced him to all of the Hollywood "greats" of the day, and he had surrogate fathers like Clark Gable teaching him everything they knew about shotguns. (Shotgunning is the absolutely best training for firing a machine gun at aerial targets and making deflection shots.)
That great lady also taught Bob to love America and everything it stood for, and she taught him to be a GENTLEMAN. Sonme of his formative years were spent in France, during the great worldwide economic depression. He stated, once, that in those black times even the well-to-do often didn't get enough to eat.
He still, to this day, speaks endearingly of Rosemarie as his "lovely wife." I have never made up my mind whether he or Rosemarie is the luckiest person in that relationship. Heaven knows, she was beautiful and very intelligent. Those of us who knew her in school thought very highly of her and of her brother, sister and her parents.
Certainly, after having been taught by the very best instructors of his time, he was able to pass on his knowledge to others, thereby giving them the ability to protect their lives and the lives of their crewmen.
